Best answer: Yes. While Resident Evil Village was originally announced as a next-generation only title, Capcom later confirmed that it would, in fact, be available on Xbox One and PS4.
Is Resident Evil Village coming to Xbox One and PS4?
Resident Evil Village is going to be playable on Xbox One or PS4, despite Capcom previously saying it'd be available only on the newest consoles: Xbox Series X, Xbox Series S and PS5, as well as PC.
The announcement was made alongside preorders becoming available in January 2021, when Capcom shared a new trailer for the game and discussed what different editions of Resident Evil Village would be available for preorder. It's worth mentioning that the game supports Smart Delivery on Xbox and a free upgrade on PlayStation. No matter what version you buy, you'll get the best experience possible on your console.
Resident Evil Village What other benefits are there for the newest consoles?
The press release for the game explained that the developers are targeting "ultra-realistic graphics," which wouldn't be possible with lower amounts of processing power. This means you can expect the Xbox Series X, Xbox Series S, and PS5 versions to look better and run smoother than the last-generation versions. The newest consoles support ray-tracing and 3D Audio, so it won't just look better — it'll sound better too.
Capcom has also explained that the village itself is meant to be a major character in the game. Due to the ultra-fast SSDs in these new consoles, exploring the village and transitioning between areas will be much, much faster than on the prior systems.
Resident Evil Village is currently slated to arrive on a launch date of May 7, 2021. The game is a direct sequel to Resident Evil 7: Biohazard, starring Ethan Winters as his daughter is abducted. To rescue her, he traverses a mysterious snowy European village and a castle filled with vampiric women.
If you want a taste of what this game looks and sounds like right now, there's a PS5-exclusive Maiden demo that you can download. Our editor Carli Velocci found it to be a short, thrilling experience and, in her impressions, shared that it was more of an audio quality showcase than she expected.
