Acer's going big with its environmental talk. Not only is it joining the RE100 initiative, wherein it's made an open commitment to use 100% renewable energy by the time 2035 rolls around, but it also is championing its Earthion platform, which emphasizes the accelerated development of green processes and designs. One Acer machine that's hoping to help on the green design front is the Aspire Vero notebook.
The Aspire Vero is the debut product of the Earthion platform. It features keyboard caps and a chassis partially made from recycled plastics and will ship in environmentally conscious packaging that uses recycled materials.
To be upfront, the specific percentages of recycled goods in the notebook itself aren't as high as the packaging. Here are the figures Acer provided: "Keyboard caps consist of 50% PCR plastic; other surfaces (top and bottom cover, screen bezels and operating surface) consist of 30% PCR plastic." Meanwhile, the box it comes in will feature 80-85% recycled paper pulp, and the Vero's accompanying laptop bag will be made from 100% recycled plastic.
