The Grounded team teases the next major update and a change to how updates will look.
What you need to know
- Grounded is a quickly evolving open-world co-op survival game on Xbox and PC from Obsidian Entertainment.
- In a new developer update, the small team at Obsidian working on Grounded has shared their future plans for the game.
- Instead of monthly content updates, Grounded will move to more significant but less frequent releases in the future.
- The 0.10.0 update, coming at the end of June, will include features like more building pieces, mirrored building pieces, Photo Mode improvements, and much more.
Grounded is already one of the best survival games on Xbox and best survival games on PC, and Obsidian Entertainment still has big plans for how to make their tiny adventure even better. Grounded's early access has tried to deliver one major content update every month, with smaller patch updates scattered in between, but the small team at Obsidian Entertainment has decided to change this, as noted in their recent Grounded developer update. Moving forward, Grounded will release less frequent updates that are broader in scope and include more significant changes.

Obsidian apparently has a ton of major features in the works for Grounded, but the push for monthly releases has slowed down development on these larger additions. The 0.10.0 content update, which follows the 0.9.0 April Content Update is now scheduled to release near the end of June, 2021, rather than the end of May. The trade-off for a longer wait, however, is the inclusion of more features in content updates. Grounded has teased some of the upcoming features, which include more building pieces, the ability to mirror building pieces, changes to giant food items, improvements to Photo Mode, a new enemy known as the ARC.R, and much more.
The Grounded team also noted that they've made the move to the most recent version of Unreal Engine (no, not Unreal Engine 5), which Grounded is built on, which will allow them to take advantage of more advanced features and tools for future updates.
I'm happy to wait longer for Grounded updates, if it means we get to enjoy bigger and better additions on the road to Grounded's official public release. If you haven't played Grounded yet, it's an excellent survival game that's available on Xbox Series X, Xbox Series S, Xbox One, and PC. It's also available through Xbox Game Pass, making it one of the best Xbox Game Pass games you can play right now.
