If you buy a new mouse on Prime Day, it really needs to be this one

If you go to Amazon's Prime Day page and search "mouse" you will be inundated with dozens upon dozens of options. There's a lot of not-great options in there, including some that might seem tempting because of the price. It's hard to tell what mice are great and what mice aren't, but that's why you've got Windows Central to help.

Finding the right mouse takes a whole lot into consideration. For example, you may need a good mouse for gaming, but what are you supposed to do when you're using your computer for other things like work or school? Do you switch the mouse out? I'll tell you right now, I'm not doing that. I doubt anyone is. So you need a mouse that's great for gaming, great for creative work, and great for general browsing as you need it.

That's why I'm recommending the Razer Viper lineup. Specifically, I think you should get the Razer Viper Ultralight that's down to a measly $39.99 in Mercury White. I bought the Black version when it was new back in the beginning of 2020 and paid a lot more for it and would still recommend it at its more expensive price. This $40 price is a bargain, though, especially in this color which has never gone on sale from its regular $80 price before. The black version has dropped that low but only once or twice and more regularly sells for around $65 or more.

More than just a gaming mouse, the Viper has a classic design that's comfortable no matter what hand you use it in. It has extra buttons but not too many. It is customizable but not annoyingly so. The 16,000 DPI sensor has amazing precision and is fully adjustable, too.

Razer is a gaming company that makes gaming gear, and the Viper is definitely a gaming mouse. However, it's a mouse that can do so much more than just game. It's so good as a mouse we actually gave it a perfect 5 out of 5 in our intiial review. One thing I love about it is that it uses an ambidextrous design that's super comfortable whether you are right or left handed. As a lefty, I vouch for it. As someone with larger than normal hands, I also find it has a great grip for me.

It's also relatively light at just 71g with Razer's 2nd-generation optical switches so you get an ultra-fast response and precise movements. With onboard DPI storage, not only can you customize the DPI settings but the mouse won't forget those settings even if you have to travel with it. Get it just right for whatever you're doing and wherever you're going.

It also has Razer Chroma for custom RGB lighting and six programmable buttons. With the buttons you can set them up to perform whatever commands you need. There are enough that you can do some advanced macros while gaming and few enough that they won't get in your way when you don't need them. Chroma is a Razer feature that not only gives you full RGB lighting but lets you sync the mouse with other Razer peripherals and even some third party gear, so that's pretty cool.

All-in-all this is a great overall mouse for whatever you want to do, and there are plenty of options in the lineup if the regular Viper isn't good enough. For example, you could upgrade to the Razer Viper Ultimate. It's down to just $90.23 for Prime Day, which is a $60 discount and the lowest price we've ever seen. We also reviewed the Ultimate if you're curious.

The Viper Mini is on sale for Prime Day as well at a price of just $18.99. It is smaller and lighter than the regular Viper above, while still keeping a lot of the great features. That might be the option for you if you're on a budget or just have smaller hands.

If you only get one mouse this Prime Day, make it a Razer Viper. Our reviews vouch for the lineup. I personally have used it for more than a year and love it. Plus, they are all on sale for the big event!
