This four-year-long race is coming to a close.
What you need to know
- Forza Motorsport 7 is the more simulation-centric half of the infamous Forza Xbox racing franchise.
- The game is nearing its fourth anniversary, so Turn 10 and Xbox Game Studios have announced the game's end-of-life.
- Licenses for cars, tracks, and music in games have limited contracts, and it looks like FM7's is running out.
- Forza Motorsport 7 will no longer be available to purchase from Sept. 15, 2021, so be sure to buy it before then to own it forever.
One of the best Xbox racing games you can play today is Forza Motorsport 7, a near-perfect game that is the simulation-focused counterpart to Forza Horizon 4. The game is beloved by a huge community of racers, and is still one of the best in its genre four years after release. However, the licenses to use real-world car brands, tracks, and licenses don't last forever, and Forza Motorsport 7 has apparently reached its limit.
Today, Turn 10 Studios has announced the end-of-life date for Forza Motorsport 7, when the game and its DLC will be taken off of all digital storefronts and will no longer be available to purchase officially. The final day of Forza Motorsport 7's availability is Sept. 15, 2021. After that, you'll no longer be able to buy the game new from the Microsoft Store, and Forza Motorsport 7 will leave Xbox Game Pass.
It's not all bad news, though. Players who already own Forza Motorsport 7 will of course be able to keep the game and play it forever, including its DLC, with the online and multiplayer portions of the game fully intact. Players who have played the game through Xbox Game Pass and purchased DLC will automatically receive a token in the Xbox message center for a free copy of Forza Motorsport 7. Finally, those who have been holding out thus far can still purchase Forza Motorsport 7 and its DLC with a massive discount until Sept. 15.
If you own Forza Motorsport 7 DLC but play the base game through Xbox Game Pass, you should receive your copy of Forza Motorsport 7 by Aug. 2, 2021. Everyone else, be sure to purchase the game between now and Sept. 15 to own it forever. Forza Motorsport 7 will not cease to function and will continue to be one of the best Xbox racing games, it just won't be available to purchase through the Microsoft Store or Xbox Game Pass.
Turn 10 and Xbox Game Studios are currently working on Forza Motorsport, the successor to FM7 and a soft-reboot of the series with a brand-new engine and a focus on current-gen consoles and hardware. If you're looking for a more arcade-like racing game, Playground Games is set to release Forza Horizon 5 later this year, and it looks incredible.
On the other hand, Forza Motosport 7 will continue to be an awesome game, and is available for Xbox Series X, Xbox Series S, Xbox One, and PC platforms. You can find links to purchase FM7 while it's on sale down below.

Forza Motorsport 7 is still one of the best racing games on Xbox and PC, and that won't change once it goes end-of-life. FM7 supports Xbox Play Anywhere, as well, so take advantage of the game's closing sale to own it forever on Xbox and PC, with online and multiplayer services still active.
