Surface Duo 2 Pen Cover now available to order

The Surface Duo 2 Pen Cover is one of the only ways to charge a Surface Slim Pen or Slim Pen 2.

Surface Duo 2 owners can now order a Surface Duo 2 Pen Cover from Microsoft. The cover can wirelessly charge a Surface Slim Pen 2 or Surface Slim Pen. The Surface Duo 2 Pen Cover is available in Obsidian (black) or Glacier (white) and costs $65. At the time of publication, Microsoft only lists the white version in stock. Best Buy has listings for the Surface Duo 2 Pen Cover in both colors, but neither is available for order. Those listings should presumably allow orders in the near future.

The Surface Duo 2 without a cover allows you to magnetically store a Surface Slim Pen 2 or original Surface Slim Pen. The magnets in the Surface Duo 2 Pen Cover are more powerful than those built into the Surface Duo 2. Because of this, the Slim Pen or Slim Pen 2 will connect more firmly when attached to the Surface Duo 2 Pen Cover.

The Surface Duo 2 cannot charge a stylus without the Surface Duo 2 Pen Cover.

In addition to providing a method for storage and charging, the Surface Duo 2 Pen Cover protects the Surface Duo 2. It has a full backplate that protects the left side of the device and bumpers that go around the device's edges.

If you'd like to use a Slim Pen 2 with your Surface Duo 2, you're going to have to purchase some form of additional hardware. The Slim Pen 2 does not come with a way to charge the stylus. You either need to purchase a charging cradle ($35) or a Surface Duo 2 Pen Cover ($65). Alternatively, you could use the Surface Signature Keyboard that can wirelessly charge the Slim Pen or Slim Pen 2. The original Surface Slim Pen came with a charger.
