Plex is launching a video game subscription service full of Atari games

Plex has entered the arena and if offering a game streaming service for classic titles from the '80s and '90s.

What you need to know

  • Plex is a digital media streaming service with free and premium memberships.
  • The company will soon be offering Plex Arcade, a games subscription service that grants "unlimited access" to Atari classics.
  • Players will be able to stream these games on multiple devices like televisions, phones, and tablets.

Plex has announced that it's getting into the game streaming business. In a blog post from the company it revealed that it will be offering Plex Arcade, a new way to stream a ton of Atari hits from the '80s and 90s.

Players will be able to subscribe for $5/month (or $3/month if you already have Plex Pass) and access their games through Parsec, streaming technology that delivers low-latency gameplay. I've used Parsec now at a number of remote events for the press, and I can attest to its quality. It's a great service.

Currently servers only work on Windows and macOS, and gameplay is limited to Android (mobile and TV), iOS, tvOS, and the Chrome web browser.

You can try Plex Arcade with a free 7-day trial today, no strings attached, as the company says. You'll just be asked to create an account and enter in payment information. It may not have the newest games out on the market, but sometimes it is nice to play those older games you loved.
