  • The update improves system graphics performance, stability, and security.
  • The update also includes security updates and stability improvements.

Microsoft recently rolled out a firmware update for the Surface Studio 2. As expected, the update doesn't include any new features. It does, however, improve system graphics performance, stability, and security. It also includes security updates and other improvements.

Here's the complete changelog, as found on its Microsoft support page.

Device Manager Name Version and Update
Surface UEFI 532.3440.768.0 - Addresses security updates and improves system stability.
NVIDIA GeForce GTX 1060 – Display adapters 27.21.14.5257 - Improves system graphics performance, stability, and security.
NVIDIA GeForce GTX 1070 – Display adapters 27.21.14.5257 - Improves system graphics performance, stability, and security.

The Surface Studio 2 is a bit older at this point, especially when it comes to its GPUs. Still, with either an NVIDIA GTX 1060 or 1070 inside, it can handle creative tasks such as video editing and graphic design. Improving system graphics performance and stability is always welcome, especially on a device that many people use for GPU-heavy tasks.

Even though it's a couple of years old, it can still run many popular games if you're okay with dropping down some settings. It won't keep up with NVIDIA's newer GPU hardware, like the RTX 30 series, but it can hit respectable framerates at FHD. Of course, the Surface Studio 2 isn't really built for gaming; it's just a nice bonus of having a GTX 1060 or 1070 inside.

In his Surface Studio 2 review, our executive editor Daniel Rubino says, "The Surface Studio 2, like all this year's Surface releases, is incredibly close to perfection. There are a few areas for improvement like the CPU and Thunderbolt 3, but otherwise, the Surface Studio 2 is, for now, the ultimate desktop PC to experience Windows 10." That review was back in 2018 when the device launched, but it's still an impressive piece of hardware.
